I downloaded the program but get an error when I try and run it?

Please report any problems to jim@azdogs.com.  The only problem seen recently was a user who had installed a much earlier version and then reinstalled the program to a different disk drive.  The current program has been modified to eliminate the problem.

What is the cost of the program? How do I purchase it.

The program costs $99.00.  You can pay with a credit card by clicking the PayPal logo on the About page or mail check or money order, along with your System ID # (found on the Help/About page) to:

K9-Ped c/o Jim Andrews
8038 East Desert Cove Ave
Scottsdale, AZ 85260

What style of pedigrees does the program print?

You can print one of the pre-defined styles, including a dog plus six generation letter sized pedigree, or copy a style and modify it to suit your needs.  The output can be to your printer, a gif file, a jpg file (best when the pedigree includes a picture) or a emf (Extended Meta File) format to include in Word documents.  The program will also output html files and text files for posting pedigrees on your web site.  You can also produce a separate text file for each dog meeting minimum data requirements with a single request. Will the program import data from other programs?

Unlike some other programs, K9-Ped believes that your data is yours and encourages sharing of pedigree data.  K9-Ped will read both comma separated and tab separated files.  After pointing out to Man's Best Friend Software that data formats could not be copyrighted, K9-Ped released a separate program that converts The Breeder's Standard "BXF" files into comma separated files.  These files can then be imported into K9-Ped and other programs.

What tools are available to "clean" my database?

K9-Ped offers the very comprehensive set of tools to clean your database.  The program will generate a list of dogs with potential duplicate names (one or two characters different). or a list of dogs with the duplicate registration numbers.  K9-Ped also identifies dogs that are listed as both sire and dam and identifies "sex" problems.  The program will search the entire database for up to 14 generations and identify any dogs that appear in their own pedigrees.  If you import a database with all uppercase names the program can change them to the more attractive "mixed case" format.  A separate program, K9-Diff, will identify the differences in between two database files.

The real key to a clean database is not to introduce errors during data input.  The basic data structure of K9-Ped will not allow dogs to have names that only differ in capitalization, spaces or hyphenation.  When importing databases with these errors K9-Ped adds a number at the end of the duplicate entries.  During data entry the program lists potential duplicate names.  A right-click on a name in this list will display the rest of the information on the potential duplicate name to help you decide if it is an actual duplicate or just a similar name.

Is there a limit on the number of breeds?

There is no restriction on the number of different breed databases you may create and use.  Each breed is a separate directory.  These can even be on different disks.  When importing data use a different "breed" to preview the data before merging it with your main database.

Is there a charge for program updates?

There is no charge for program updates or new versions of K9-Ped.  If kennel management software is added to produce a new program as a combined package there may be a charge to upgrade to this new program.  Even if this happens the original K9-Ped program will continue to be upgraded at no change.
